The Ordinary Retinol 0.2% in Squalane
Water- and silicone-free, The Ordinary’s Retinol 0.2% in Squalene features highly stable retinol, an ingredient that can reduce the appearance of ageing with impressive results. A powerhouse form of vitamin A, retinol encourages cell turnover, revealing healthier, softer skin.
Apply a small amount to face in the PM as part of your skincare regimen, after water serums but before heavier treatments. Do not use with other retinoid treatments. Avoid unprotected solar exposure. Store in a cool, dry place.
Note: When pregnant or breastfeeding, it is recommended to avoid any skincare products containing retinoids such as formulations with Granactive Retinoid or Retinol.
Caution: Retinoids can make the skin more sensitive to UV radiation. Sun protection is particularly important when using retinoids. This product must not be used in conjunction with other retinoids including retinol or retinoic acid. This product is not a treatment for acne. Acne-prone skin may experience a temporary increase in acne during the first few weeks of using any form of retinoid including those used in this formulation.

I can’t explain the scent to you, it’s not horrible, but it doesn’t smell like cupcakes. I used this about a year ago for several months and loved it. Ran out and kept forgetting to order it, ended up buying a few other things and using those, so stopped for a few months. Kept feeling like my skin looked bad, I looked tired all of the time, etc. I just ordered it again a few weeks ago and I cannot believe the difference! Within two or so weeks my skin looks a million times better, more youthful, nice glow. I’ll never use anything else again, hands down best skin care face serum or cream Ive ever used. I never write reviews but felt compelled with how awesome this stuff is. It does burn a bit as your skin builds tolerance to it (which it indicates on the bottle this may happen), but definitely worth it.

I started really taking care of my skin in January of this year as a New Year’s resolution. I never applied anything to my face before 2024, and I started off with just a simple moisturizer, exfoliant, and this retinol at night time.
I wish I took a before picture, but I can really see a noticeable difference in the way my skin looks. I am literally glowing all the time. I attached a photo to show you the results. My under eyes have always had problems being dark and baggy, and I think this product has helped a little bit with the bagginess, but not necessarily the coloration. However, for my forehead and cheeks, I can see a difference in how moist it looks and how smooth it’s starting to become. I always make sure to apply this as the second to last step in my skin care routine. I put the retinol on after my other products, and then the moisturizer is my last step!

I am 26 and have only started using Retinol in the last year. It is oily because squalene IS an oil, it isn’t bad and does soak in but is indeed oily. I have oily skin with dry patches in my T-zone. I don’t really notice a difference day to day since I started using it but I am younger and think Retinol is something that you will notice a difference as you age more than day to day. It doesn’t have a smell and has never irritated my skin in any way. I will warn you that on the side of the box in very small print it says to refrigerate after opening and I noticed some people had issues with theirs that did not do that.

I was using a pricier retinol product before switching to The Ordinary. I’ve always been a firm believer that good skincare doesn’t have to bankrupt you. When I received this, I was having a minor breakout due to that time of the month. I was using this every other day and it cleared my face after the 2nd use. My face is extremely sensitive and will break out if I use the wrong product. It wasn’t the case with this. My face looks brighter every time I use it. A little goes a long way. I use maybe a dime sized amount.
